What does stroke recovery at home look like in Falim?
It may start in a home the survivor has barely seen. A parent comes to live with a grown child in a newer flat, and rehabilitation begins in unfamiliar rooms.
For the service itself, read stroke rehabilitation at home. For the suburb, see the Falim area page.
How do we set up a newer flat?
Newer flats are built with lifts and level floors, which helps. The details can still catch a weak leg.
- Measure the doorways for a wheelchair or walking frame.
- Check the bathroom threshold and the shower step.
- Set the bed at a height that allows a safe stand.
- Fit a night light along the route to the toilet.
- Keep the floor clear of rugs and cables.
The physiotherapist walks it with you on the first visit.
How do we handle lifts and entry?
Tell the management the date and the unit number, and ask for a visitor pass if required. Ask for the lift to be available when the survivor comes home, and for a wheelchair route to the lift.
Practise getting in and out of the lift at home with a chair, so the first real trip feels familiar.
How can the mall help?
AEON Ipoh Falim offers flat floors, seats and cool air, which suits a survivor who tires fast in the heat. We build slowly: one corridor, a rest, a loop, then a snack at a table.
Go with a helper and at a quiet hour. Mind the speed of other shoppers, because a crowd can unsettle someone who has just regained balance.
How do we rebuild road confidence near Jalan Lahat?
Traffic can scare a survivor who has lost the ability to react quickly. We build from the flat entrance to a quiet pavement, then to watching traffic from a bench, and later crossing at a pedestrian crossing with a helper.
Do not rush this one. A long wait for a green light is also tiring, so bring a seat if needed.
Which hospital papers do I send?
Families in Falim come home from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Hospital Fatimah or Pantai Hospital Ipoh. Send the discharge summary, the medicine list and any exercise sheet from the ward.
