How does home physiotherapy work in Ipoh Old Town and New Town?
A physiotherapist comes to your door, watches how you move through your home and treats you there. In the town centre, that home may be above a shop or in an older building, so the first question is always about the stairs.
Send a WhatsApp message with the street, the floor and the main problem. For the neighbourhood, see the Ipoh Old Town and New Town area page, and for the service, home physiotherapy.
What do we need to know about your staircase?
Stairs decide the plan, so tell us a few details.
- The number of flights, and the number of steps in each.
- Whether there is a rail, and on which side.
- Whether the steps are deep, narrow or worn.
- What the light is like on the stairs in the evening.
A photo helps more than a description. The physiotherapist then rehearses the stairs on the first visit with the patient and a helper.
What is the first visit like in an older building?
We watch how the person gets out of bed, reaches the toilet and manages the stairs. The patient may live upstairs because everything they need is there, so we try not to take it away.
You leave with a short exercise set and a stair plan. It says when to climb, when to rest and what number of trips a day is safe.
Where can walking practice happen?
Old Town runs from the railway station to the river, and New Town lies on the east bank on a wide, flat grid. A flat street is a kind setting for walking practice.
Begin with one block and a rest, and add a block at a time. Choose the cooler hours, because Ipoh’s heat tires a recovering body fast.
Which hospitals do people come home from?
Families in the town centre come home from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Hospital Fatimah or Pantai Hospital Ipoh. Send a photo of the discharge summary and the medicine list before the first visit.
If the patient is recovering from a stroke, read stroke rehabilitation at home in the town centre.
How can a child living elsewhere arrange it?
Write to us from wherever you are. Describe the building, the floor, who lives with your parent and what they want to keep doing. Our page on caring for parents in Ipoh from KL covers the rest.
