What does stroke recovery at home look like in Sunway City Ipoh?
A physiotherapist visits the person who had the stroke, checks how they move in the real bedroom and bathroom, and starts treatment at the same visit. The plan then trains the family to repeat the right movements every day.
The general approach is on our stroke rehabilitation at home page. Here we cover how to run it in a township household.
What do we check on the first visit in a township home?
Apartment or landed house, the first visit looks at the same four things.
- The route from the bed to the toilet, and the height of the bed and toilet seat.
- The front door: a threshold, a step, or the walk from the lift.
- The bathroom floor when wet, since tiles become slippery in the humid climate.
- How the person gets from lying to sitting to standing, and which side is weaker.
We then teach one or two safe transfers to the person and whoever helps them. You leave with a short list to repeat each day.
How do we share practice when the working adults are out?
Stroke recovery depends on frequent short practice, and a household with shift workers can still manage it. The aim is a plan that works when only one person is home.
- Agree two or three practice times a day and write them on a card by the bed.
- Keep the walking aid, a firm chair and a clear path in the same place every day.
- Ask the helper or family member to watch the first session so they know how to help safely.
- Send a quick message to us if something changes, such as a new pain or a stumble.
We can give the family a simpler version of the plan for days when time is short.
Which hospitals do stroke families come home from?
Families in Sunway City may come home from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Hospital Fatimah or Pantai Hospital Ipoh. Send the discharge summary and any note from the doctor before the first visit.
Follow your doctor’s instructions on medicine, diet and what to avoid. Our guide to going home after the stroke ward lists what to prepare.
What goals can we set near home?
The first goals are inside the house: getting to the toilet safely, standing at the sink, walking to the door. Outside goals come later and start small, such as a short flat walk in the cooler part of the day with someone beside the survivor.
Some families in the township choose a longer aim, such as sitting and strolling around Lost World of Tambun with the grandchildren. We help you break that into steps, and your doctor’s advice stays first.
How does a family member in KL or Singapore take part?
You can set the plan up from afar. Send the diagnosis, the date of the stroke, the hospital and a short description of what your parent can do now.
We agree a start date with you, and you can ask for a written summary after each visit. Some families also join a short video call when the exercises are changed.
