What if the person who had the stroke is of working age?
A stroke at forty or fifty brings two questions at once: how to recover, and how to keep the household going. Both need an answer, and the answers are linked.
Our stroke rehabilitation at home page explains the method. Here we cover the added pressure on a working family in Tasek.
How do we talk about work and money?
Start with the doctor’s advice. Ask about driving, working with machinery, standing for long hours and when to review.
Then tell us what the job needs: lifting, standing, climbing, driving or screen work. We build the exercises towards those tasks in steps and tell you what we see at each visit.
What does recovery for a working adult focus on?
The plan follows the person, but working-age survivors tend to share the same priorities.
- Walking at a steady pace, and getting on and off buses or cars.
- Standing for longer without fatigue.
- Using the weak hand for fine tasks.
- Managing tiredness through the day.
We reassess every few visits and share the findings with you, so you can discuss them with the doctor.
How do we plan around cost?
Prices differ between home and centre, and no prices are published yet. We give a quote on WhatsApp after a short description.
Ask your insurer, your employer and the hospital’s medical social worker about help you may be entitled to. Tell us your budget, and we suggest a schedule of visits with exercises the family can continue between them.
How do we protect the carer’s job and health?
The person who earns and the person who cares are sometimes the same. That is a recipe for exhaustion.
- Teach a second helper so you are not alone.
- Agree practice slots that fit your hours.
- Take rest yourself, and tell us if your own back or shoulders hurt.
Our guide to caregiver strain and back care has simple ways to lift and support safely.
Where do I read more?
If the survivor or another family member also has back or shoulder pain from work, see home physiotherapy in Tasek. The Tasek area page gives the overview, and our guide to the first three months of stroke recovery shows what to expect.
