What happens after a stay at KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital?
You go home with a discharge summary, a review date and, if you had an operation, a list of things to avoid. The recovery itself, the walking, bending and getting strong, now happens in your own house.
That is where a physiotherapist helps most. The work is practical: stairs, the bathroom, getting in and out of the car.
Does it matter how far I live from the hospital?
Not for home visits. KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital is on Jalan Raja Dihilir, but patients go home to all parts of Ipoh, from Fair Park and Greentown to Bercham and Meru Raya.
Our Canning Garden centre is opening soon in a different part of Ipoh. Because home visits are available now, where you live does not decide whether you get care. If you are unsure about your area, send it and we will tell you how we can help.
How do I bring my surgeon’s plan into physio?
Bring the operation report, the discharge summary and any written restrictions. Ask your surgeon’s clinic these questions:
- Which movements should I avoid, and for how long?
- Can I put full weight on the leg or arm?
- When is my next review?
- Is there a protocol you want the physiotherapist to follow?
Our guide to bringing surgeon instructions to your physiotherapist explains how we use them.
What about insurance?
Some KPJ patients are insured. Private medical insurance in Malaysia usually covers outpatient physiotherapy only with a doctor’s referral and within an annual limit that depends on the plan, so ask the insurer directly [1].
Check before the first session whether your plan is cashless or reimbursement. Our guides on insurance and physiotherapy in Perak and cashless vs reimbursement list the questions to ask.
What does a first home visit look like?
We ask what the operation was and what you want to do again, then look at your walking, your joint movement and your home. You leave with a few exercises and a plan for the week.

What if I live far from family?
Some patients in Ipoh have children working in KL or Singapore. You can message us from anywhere, and a helper or neighbour can be at the visit while you join by video.
Our page on caring for parents in Ipoh from KL sets out the steps.
How do I get a price?
Prices differ between home and centre, and we have not published a list. Tell us on WhatsApp what happened and your area, and we quote for the plan we suggest.
