Insurance and physiotherapy in Perak

You have a policy and a card, and no idea whether physio is covered.

Does insurance cover physiotherapy in Perak?

Sometimes. It depends on your plan, your insurer and whether the sessions are after a hospital stay or as an outpatient. The only reliable answer is from your insurer, in writing if possible.

Perak families tend to hold three kinds of cover: a private policy, an employer card and a government scheme. Each works differently.

What do private plans usually pay?

Private medical insurance in Malaysia may cover outpatient physiotherapy only with a doctor’s referral and within a yearly limit that varies by plan [1]. Some plans pay only for physiotherapy linked to a hospital stay.

Your policy wording decides this, not Kinesio Rehab Ipoh and not any physiotherapist. Our page on whether you need a referral shows how to get the letter.

What should I ask my insurer?

Have your policy number ready and write down the answers.

  1. Is outpatient physiotherapy covered, and is it under a limit?
  2. Do I need a doctor’s referral, and what must the letter say?
  3. Is home physiotherapy covered, or only a clinic?
  4. Is it cashless at some providers or reimbursed after I pay?
  5. Which documents must I send, and by what date?

Our guide to cashless versus reimbursement explains the two ways a claim can work.

What about employer cover and government schemes?

Ask HR for the group benefit schedule, since some include outpatient physiotherapy and some do not.

Government schemes are different. PeKa B40 covers health screening, medical devices and rehabilitation equipment, and is not described as covering outpatient physiotherapy sessions [2]. mySalam pays a lump sum on diagnosis of listed illnesses, which can go towards treatment or rehabilitation, and is not a reimbursement for sessions [3].

Insured workers injured at work or on the way to work may have another route. Read about the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) and physiotherapy in Ipoh.

What papers should I keep for a claim?

Keep every document from the start.

  • The doctor’s referral or diagnosis letter.
  • Hospital discharge summary, if there was one.
  • An itemised invoice and a receipt for each visit.
  • A short progress note from the physiotherapist.
  • Your policy number and claim form.

If you live in KL or Singapore and your parent is in Ipoh, ask the helper to photograph each paper and send it to you the same day.

Questions people ask

Will my insurance pay for physiotherapy in Ipoh?

It depends on your plan. Some pay for physiotherapy only after a hospital stay, others cover outpatient sessions within a yearly limit. Call your insurer, quote your policy number and ask in plain words. Do not assume.

Does my employer's medical card cover physio?

Some group medical plans include outpatient physiotherapy and some do not. Ask your HR department for the benefit schedule, and check whether a doctor's letter is needed and whether there is a cap per visit.

Can I claim a home visit?

Ask your insurer whether they pay for physiotherapy at home as well as in a clinic. Keep the invoice, receipt and any report from the physiotherapist. Tell us your insurer and we will say what we can provide.

Does mySalam or PeKa B40 pay for physiotherapy?

Neither is described as a reimbursement for outpatient physiotherapy sessions. mySalam pays a lump sum for listed illnesses, and PeKa B40 covers health screening, devices and equipment. Check the current scheme rules.

How can Kinesio Rehab Ipoh help with an insurance claim?

Tell us on WhatsApp which insurer you use and what they asked for. We will say what paperwork we can provide after a visit. Cashless options depend on each insurer's panel, so confirm them with your insurer.
