Home physiotherapy in Ipoh Garden

From the hospital ward to your own living room, with a plan for the first week.

What does the first week at home look like after discharge?

The first week sets the pattern, so we plan it day by day with you. After a hospital stay you may be tired, in pain and nervous about moving, which is normal.

The general routine is on our home physiotherapy service page. Below is the version for someone leaving a hospital in Ipoh Garden.

What happens on each day?

The plan below is a guide, and your surgeon’s instructions come first.

  • Day of discharge: rest, take medicines as prescribed and set up a firm chair and a clear path to the toilet.
  • First day or two: send us the discharge summary and your surgeon’s instructions.
  • First visit: we check how you get out of bed, sit, stand and walk, and teach a few exercises.
  • Later in the week: we progress the walking and the stairs, and answer the questions that arise.

Write down your questions for the surgeon as they appear, so you remember them at the follow-up.

Which papers should I send before the first visit?

Hospital Fatimah and Pantai Hospital Ipoh are both in Ipoh Garden, and both give discharge papers. Send a photo of the discharge summary, the medicine list and any page the surgeon has written on movement and weight.

If you came home from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun or KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, send those instead. Our page on recovery after surgery at home explains what we check.

How do surgeon follow-ups and physio fit together?

The surgeon decides about wound care, medicine, scans and the limits on movement. The physiotherapist helps you move within those limits.

Keep both calendars in one place. If your surgeon changes the advice at a follow-up, send us the new note before our next visit, and we adjust the exercises.

Where can I walk when I am ready?

In the first weeks, walking is inside the house and then the front path. A later aim is a gentle loop in Taman Rekreasi Sultan Abdul Aziz, the park in the neighbourhood, at a cooler time of day.

Aeon Kinta City is another landmark, with flat floors and seats for a rest. Choose the goal that matters most to you, and we build towards it.

What about the Canning Garden centre?

Our Canning Garden centre is opening soon. Until then, home visits are how we see you. Later you may use both: home while walking is hard, the centre when you can travel and want equipment.

Where do I read more?

For a stroke in the family, see stroke rehabilitation at home in Ipoh Garden. The Ipoh Garden area page gives the overview, and Canning Garden is the neighbouring area.

Questions people ask

I was discharged from Hospital Fatimah yesterday after a knee replacement. When should physiotherapy begin?

Send us the discharge summary and the date of surgery today, and tell us what your surgeon advised about walking and bending. We suggest a first visit within the first days at home, depending on your instructions and how you feel.

Do I need to take the physiotherapy plan back to my surgeon?

Your surgeon sets the limits, and we work inside them. Ask what to avoid, show us the written notes, and tell your surgeon at the follow-up what exercises you are doing. We can send a short progress note if you want one.

My wife stays at Aeon Kinta City most afternoons. Can the mall be a recovery goal?

Yes, as a later goal. First the stairs, the front path and short walks outside. When your surgeon agrees, a slow walk through a mall with seating is a fair test of confidence.

Will the centre at Canning Garden replace home visits for me?

Not yet. The centre is opening soon, and home visits are available now. After a joint operation, some people start at home and later add the centre when they can travel and want gym equipment. We plan the change with you.

Every body is different. For a diagnosis that fits you, see a registered physiotherapist or doctor, and seek urgent care for sudden weakness, numbness, chest pain or severe pain after a fall.
