Physiotherapy at home in Canning Garden

Your single-storey home has its own small steps, and a physiotherapist can walk them with you.

What does home physiotherapy look like in Canning Garden?

A physiotherapist comes to your house, watches how you move around it, and treats you there. The plan is built on your own porch, bathroom and bedroom, not on a general exercise sheet.

Canning Garden is also where our centre will stand, opening soon. Home visits are available now, including here. Read the practical guide for home physiotherapy in Canning Garden.

What are the homes like, and what does that mean for a visit?

Canning Garden was carved out of the former Canning Estate. Street descriptions of the area mention mature trees and single-storey landed homes.

Single-storey sounds easy for recovery, and in some ways it is, because no staircase sits between the bed and the toilet. The hurdles are smaller and easier to miss. A raised porch, a car-porch lip, a bathroom threshold or a back step to the yard can catch a shuffling foot.

On the first visit we walk those spots with you. On Jalan Canning Estate, Jalan Keliling or Jalan Lee Kwee Foh, the questions are the same. Where do you slip, where do you rest, and what do you avoid?

Which hospitals do families come home from?

Canning Garden borders Ipoh Garden, home to Hospital Fatimah and Pantai Hospital Ipoh. Families here may also be discharged from KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital or Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, both in the Fair Park area.

Whichever hospital the papers come from, bring the discharge summary and the medicine list to the first visit. They tell us what the surgeon or doctor has asked for. Our page on home physiotherapy explains the whole first visit.

What do people in a long-settled estate need most?

This is a residential estate where some families have lived for decades. That points to ageing in place: an older parent who wants to keep walking to the gate, tend the garden and manage the bathroom alone.

  • Recovery after knee or hip replacement, or a fracture.
  • Balance and strength after a fall or a long illness.
  • Stroke recovery at home, with a family member learning to help safely.
  • Back and foot pain from standing long hours in a small family eatery or shop.

The older adult rehabilitation page covers the strength and balance side in detail. For stroke, see stroke rehabilitation at home in Canning Garden.

What happens when our Canning Garden centre opens?

Our centre here is opening soon, and we have no date to share. Until then, home visits are how care begins. Once the centre opens, you can move between home and centre as the plan changes, and in-centre physiotherapy will suit people who can travel and want gym equipment.

Which neighbouring areas do we also visit?

Nearby estates have their own pages: Ipoh Garden, Kampung Simee and Fair Park. If your street is not on a list, send it on WhatsApp and we will tell you how we can help.

Questions people ask

Your centre is in Canning Garden. Why would I choose a home visit?

The centre is opening soon and has no date yet, so home visits are how care starts now. Later, some people use both: home while walking is hard, the centre once they can travel and want gym equipment. We plan the switch with you.

My house is single-storey. Is there still a risk of falling?

Yes. Raised porches, car-porch lips, bathroom thresholds and wet kitchen floors catch tired feet. At the first visit we walk those exact spots with you and suggest simple changes, such as where to fit a grab rail or a non-slip mat, so the changes stay small and affordable.

I live off Jalan Keliling or Jalan Lee Kwee Foh. Is my street covered?

We arrange home visits across Ipoh, and Canning Garden is part of that. Send your street name on WhatsApp so we can confirm. Tell us if your house has a gate step or a sloping drive, because we plan around it.

My mother has run a small eatery here for decades. Can physio fit around her work?

Yes. Standing all day wears on feet, knees and the lower back. Tell us her working hours on WhatsApp and we suggest a visit slot and a few short exercises she can do beside the stove or counter between customers.

Every body is different. For a diagnosis that fits you, see a registered physiotherapist or doctor, and seek urgent care for sudden weakness, numbness, chest pain or severe pain after a fall.
