What does a Taman Pertama household need after a stroke?
In a terraced house, a stroke makes ordinary things hard: the front step, the stairs to the bedrooms and a bathroom floor that is wet in the morning. The first visit deals with these before anything else.
The full approach is on our stroke rehabilitation at home page. Our guide to the first three months of stroke recovery explains what to expect.
How can church become a recovery goal?
For a family that goes to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sunday is a fixed point. It asks for a car transfer, steps at the entrance, sitting in a pew, standing up and sitting down again and again, and the stamina for a long service.
We rehearse each part at home: the transfer, the sit-to-stand and standing steady with a hand on a rail. Choose a seat near the aisle with something to hold, and a family member beside her.
What about the Friday night market and crowds?
The Friday night market brings noise, people moving in all directions and uneven ground. After a stroke, this is hard even when the legs are strong, because the brain has to process a lot at once.
We build tolerance in small steps: a quiet street first, then a calm hour, then a short visit with a companion. Evening fatigue arrives sooner after a stroke, so go early and leave early.
Which hospitals do people come home from?
Families come from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Fatimah Hospital, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital or Pantai Hospital Ipoh. The hospital team and your doctor lead medical care, and we continue the movement work at home.
Bring the discharge letter, the medicine list and the ward exercise sheet. Our guide on going home after the stroke ward lists what to ask before discharge.
When does the First Garden jogging track come in?
The track is a later goal for walking, not running. First comes the floor at home, then the front step, the street and a rest bench.
When the physiotherapist agrees he is steady, a short walk on the track with a companion makes a clear target. Choose a cool hour, carry water and plan where to rest. Our page on walking again after a stroke explains the stages.
How can relatives away from Ipoh take part?
Choose one person at home to attend visits and receive a short message from us afterwards. Brothers and sisters in KL or Singapore can then follow the same plan.
If a new weakness, a fall or slurred speech appears, go to an emergency department at once. See stroke warning signs for what to look for.
Home visits now, centre later
Families in Taman Pertama can arrange a stroke rehabilitation visit at home now. Our Canning Garden centre, near Fatimah Hospital, opens soon, and we will share the date once it is fixed. The home and centre prices are not the same, so message us on WhatsApp for a quote.
