PERKESO and physiotherapy in Ipoh

You were hurt at work and want to know what help exists and what to ask.

What help does PERKESO give after a work injury?

The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is called SOCSO in English. It runs rehabilitation for insured workers, and the details of who qualifies are set by PERKESO, not by us.

The first step after a work injury is to tell your employer and ask what PERKESO needs from you. Keep every medical report from the start.

What does the Ipoh rehabilitation centre offer?

A Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre operates in Ipoh. It offers structured physiotherapy, an intensive rehabilitation programme and robotic rehabilitation. A June 2026 report describes a patient with a road-accident elbow fracture who was admitted for about six weeks in 2025 and returned to work [1].

Muscle and bone problems are a large part of this work. In 2022, 34% of cases admitted to PERKESO’s rehabilitation programme were musculoskeletal [2].

What should I ask PERKESO and my employer?

Write the answers down.

  1. Does my injury qualify for the rehabilitation programme?
  2. Which documents do you need, and by when?
  3. Who is my case officer, and how do I reach them?
  4. Can I also see a private physiotherapist, and will receipts count?
  5. When will the programme be reviewed?

Photograph every letter and report. If you are the child of the injured worker, offer to keep the folder.

Where does home physiotherapy fit?

Beside the programme, not instead of it. PERKESO’s team plans the main rehabilitation, and home physiotherapy can cover the gaps.

  • The days between programme sessions, to keep the exercises going.
  • The weeks while you wait for a place.
  • The weeks after discharge, when you are back home but not yet strong.
  • Sessions timed around your shifts once you return to work; ask us what is possible.

Tell us what the team has advised and we will work to it. See how adult rehabilitation works at home.

Which work injuries need a plan built around the job?

Factory workers with repetitive strain, drivers and delivery riders with back pain or road injuries, and kitchen staff on their feet for long hours. Each needs a plan built around the real job.

Our guide to weekend physiotherapy in Ipoh explains how to arrange sessions around shifts.

How do we help?

Message us with the injury, your job and the area of Ipoh where you live. We say how a first home visit would run, and give a quote for the plan we would suggest.

Home visits across Ipoh are available now. Our Canning Garden centre, near Fatimah Hospital, is opening soon.

Questions people ask

Am I eligible for PERKESO rehabilitation?

Only PERKESO can say. Ask your employer's HR and the PERKESO office whether your injury and contributions qualify, and what documents they need. Keep your medical reports and the accident report.

Can I use home physiotherapy and PERKESO at the same time?

Ask your PERKESO case officer first, and follow the rehabilitation team's plan. Home physiotherapy can support the exercises between sessions or cover the weeks before and after the programme. Share the team's advice with us so we work alongside it.

Does PERKESO pay for private physiotherapy?

Do not assume. Ask PERKESO before you book anything, and ask what receipts they need if you do pay privately. Keep every invoice and report.

What if I have already returned to work but I am still stiff or weak?

Then home physiotherapy timed around your shifts may help you rebuild strength. Ask us which times are possible, and tell us your job, your hours and what you cannot yet do, and we will plan around them.

Where is the PERKESO centre in Ipoh?

A Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre operates in Ipoh, according to a June 2026 Ipoh Echo report. Ask PERKESO for the address and how to be referred.
