Family care planner for a parent in Ipoh

One page to share the load when a parent needs physiotherapy and you live far away.

How do I use this planner?

Fill it in once, share it with your siblings or relatives, and update it every month. Write names against every job, because tasks without a name tend not to happen.

Perak had the highest share of residents aged 65 and over of any Malaysian state in 2026, at 10.8% [1]. Plenty of Ipoh families arrange care from a distance, so you are not the only one.

1. About your parent

  • Name, age and the part of Ipoh they live in.
  • The reason for physiotherapy, and the doctor or hospital involved.
  • What they want to keep doing, in their words.
  • What worries them, such as stairs, the bathroom or a fear of falling.
  • Medicines, allergies and other conditions, written in one place.

2. Who does what?

Write a name against each job. Share the table in your family chat.

3. What to send the physiotherapist

  • The diagnosis and a photo of the discharge letter.
  • The medicine list.
  • The area of Ipoh and the house type, with the floor of the bedroom and bathroom.
  • Who is at home on weekday mornings.
  • Your parent’s goals and fears.
  • Who should receive updates after each visit, and in which language.

4. How will we stay updated?

Agree this before the first visit.

5. The first month

WeekWhat happensWho
1WhatsApp the physiotherapist, send papers, agree the first visit and the quote
2First assessment at home, goals agreed, exercises taught
3Follow-up visits begin, check the exercise routine fits the day
4Review: is the plan working, and what is the next goal?

Set the review date at the first visit, so the plan is checked rather than left to drift.

6. What if I cannot come to Ipoh?

Name a backup in Ipoh: a relative, neighbour or trusted helper who can open the door and watch the session. Give that person the physiotherapist’s name and the exercise list.

If no one can be there, tell us. We will plan the first visit around who is available and how your parent is happiest.

What happens with the planner?

Send us the first, third and fourth sections on WhatsApp. We reply with how a visit would run, and a quote for the plan we suggest. Use the parent question checklist to talk with your parent first, and read our guide on caring for parents in Ipoh from KL or from Singapore.

Questions people ask

We are three siblings in different cities. Who should lead?

Choose one main contact for the physiotherapist, and give the others clear jobs, such as paying, attending visits or watching medicines. One voice avoids mixed messages, and shared jobs avoid burnout.

What if my parent does not want help?

Start with their goal, not the problem. Ask what they want to keep doing. A home visit lets them try it in their own space, and they can say no after the first session.

Can I be part of the visits from KL or Singapore?

You can send the first message, agree the plan and receive updates by message. A relative or helper in Ipoh can sit in, and we can share the exercises with you afterwards if you ask.

How do we split the cost fairly?

Agree before the first visit how you will share it. Ask for the quote on WhatsApp, decide who pays, and keep receipts together, because they help with any insurance claim.
